Computers never get slow because of their age. Saying that a computer has become very slow because it’s very old is a false idea. A computer is supposed to be fast as the moment you bought it to the moment you throw it away. You might have searched the internet for tips on how to increase your computer speed because it was becoming very slow.
Most computers become slower over time because of the large amount of data on them. Often it has to do with the computer power plan you’re using which you might have change accidentally or need to change to a high performance option. So check your power plan that it’s not at power saver or change it to a High performance before you read further. It’s amazing how very affective this can be on your computer speed/performance. Below I will list down some ways that you could use to increase your computer speed.
Protect your computer against spyware.
One of the most effective ways is to protect your computer against spyware and make regular scans to clear out the junk. You’re at risk of obtaining a spyware on your computer if you use the internet occasionally, especially if you’re a big fun of downloads. The main risk of getting a spyware on your computer is that it puts your confidential information at risk. Spyware collects personal information or your computer without letting you know/without permission. I would recommend using software such as AVG anti-spyware to protect your computer from spyware.
Free up disk space
Free up disk space by deleting unwanted files or folders. As you continue using your new computer data starts to build up, most of which is unwanted files, temporary files, unused software. There is a very useful tool on your computer called Disk Cleanup which helps to free up space on your hard drives to improve the computer performance. Disk Cleanup identifies the files that you can safely delete, and then enables you to choose whether you want to delete some or all of the identified files. You might use Disk Cleanup to; remove temporary internet files, empty the bin/trash, remove optional windows components that you don’t use, remove downloaded program files, remove temporary files such as error reports, remove installed programs that you no longer use, remove unused restore points and shadow copies from system restore.
This can dramatically improve your computer’s speed or performance. Another very useful tool that you can install on your computer to help clear up space is CCleaner. CCleaner is a very useful tool to clean up temporary files especially. Internet temporary files can use up a lot of space because the browser caches each page you visit for faster access later. If you would like to find out how to use the Disk Cleanup click here.
Run the Disk Defragmenter
Run Disk Defragment at regular intervals, maybe daily, weekly or month etc. Disk fragmentation slows down the overall performance of your computer. When the files are fragmented, the computer has to search the hard disk when the file is opened to put it back together. This process can really slow down your computer. Disk fragment is a windows tool that ‘consolidates’ fragmented files and folders on your computer hard disk, speeding up access to data. If you would like to learn more about Disk Defragmenter and how to use it click here.
Check for viruses
Viruses can slow down your computer and can often create annoyance using the computer. It would be a good idea to spend some money on good anti-virus software to protect your computer against viruses. Most computers luck anti-virus software which leads to the computer being at risk of viruses.
Clean up your registry
The CCleaner software is a very good software for fixing/cleaning your registry. You’ll be amazed how many of these faults there will be each time you scan. So find a good registry manager. This will also help increase your computer performance/speed.
Detect and repair errors
This is another useful way of increasing your computer speed. The windows error checking utility scans the hard drive for bad sectors and scans file errors to see whether certain files or folders are misplaced. As you use your hard drive, it can develop bad sectors which can slow down your hard disk performance and sometimes make data writing/reading difficult or impossible. This is another affective to increase your computer speed besides running Disk Cleanup or Disk defragmenter, or other ways that I’ve listed.
Add ram/computer memory
I’ve added this way last because in most cases it’s not necessary because if your computer was performing well at the time you bought it; it should be able to continue performing perfectly. But in some cases you might have to increase your computer memory; such as when you’re running software which requires a lot of memory, or when there is a lot of data on your computer but are unable to delete any because it’s all important, so increasing your computer memory would help make your computer perform better.
Those were sine useful ways that you might use to increase your computer performance or speed. Use them when your computer has become very slow lately and let me know how successful they were.
