- From the Start menu, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, then click Disk Cleanup. If your computer has more than one drive available you will be prompted to specify which drive you would like to clean.
- Disk Cleanup will calculate how much space you’ll be able to free up, this could take a while so be patient. In the Disk Cleanup for dialog box, scroll through the content of the Files to delete list.
- Check the files that you would like to be deleted and clear the check boxes for files that you don’t want to delete, and then click OK.
- Click Yes, when prompted to confirm that you would like to delete the specified files.
You can also find more options when you click the More Options tab in the Disk cleanup dialog. Other options that you have include; removing programs that you don’t need, removing all but the most recent restore points, or deleting shadow copies and Windows Complete PC Backup images.
The process of cleaning your computer begins after clicking OK, this could take a few minutes. When the process completes the Disk Cleanup dialog will close. Your computer should be cleaner with more space than before and should perform better.
