Lake Victoria is the Largest Lake in Africa and the largest tropical water lake in the world. It occupies a surface area of 68,800 square kilometres and has a maximum depth of 84 metres (276 ft) and an average depth of 20 metres (66ft). Lake Victoria was named after the United Kingdom’s Queen Victoria, by John Hanning Speke, who was the first European to see the lake. The lake Victoria is located in East Africa and is shared between the three east African countries, Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya.
