After enjoying the entire first season of Rome, I discovered today that HBO has cancelled filming of its TV series Rome which will last at season 2. That’s right ROME has been canelled! Because of low viewer rating and high expenses to keep up the production HBO had to call it off. The first season profiting around $100 million, drawing in between 2 million and 3 million viewers wasn’t comparing with other shows such as ‘The Sopranos’ or ‘Six feet under’. Rome apparently was originally envisioned as a miniseries but after revising the quality of the script and seeing potential the network and its partners decided to convert it into a full TV show. It was nominated for eight Emmys winning 7.

I have to say season one was amazing. Season one sets off after Gaius Julius Caesar has gained victory over his ‘bloody’ quest of Gaul. Just as he prepares his celebration of victory and return to Rome, he receives message that his daughter Julia has died in Childbirth. Back in Rome the ruling class is fearful that the popular general’s homecoming will disrupt the status quo. Four hundred years after the founding of the Republic, Rome is now the wealthiest city in the world. Though conceived on principles of shared power and personal competition, its foundations are now crumbling. The ruling class has become extravagantly wealthy, and there now exists are great chasm between the classes.
Throughout, Rome continues to amaze and pull us deeper into the history of Rome with it’s amazing action scenes, detailed scripts and continuous dramatic scenes, charismatic conversations between the characters plus the well constructed music. Just writing about Rome now just makes me want to watch the all season again which I will without a doubt. The quality of the production I really think deserves more than two season. Rome definitely has to be the best TV series ever broadcasted on Television. And I have more than a few people to back me on this one. I was really captured into the Rome world, The characters were very persuasive in their roles which made me forgot about the little judgments about the scenes or plots. I was just lost into Rome. I’ve never watched anything like this before. And I think it was quite rude and unfair to give us a show with this much quality in just two seasons. HBO has really teased it’s audience, this has caused more than a few to scream out for more. We have to bring back Rome. And a lot of individuals do. So don’t be surprised when you hear about a website such as www.bringbackrome.com or accidently falling into a bunch of angry protestors protesting for their favorite show ‘Rome’. I’m really looking forward to season two.
About the TV series.
Half a century before the dawn of Christianity, Rome has become the wealthiest city in the world, a cosmopolitan metropolis of one million people — epicenter of a sprawling empire. Founded on principles of shared power and fierce personal competition, the Republic was created to prevent any one man from seizing absolute control. It is a society where soldiers can rise up from provincial commoners to become national heroes, even leaders of the Republic.
But as the ruling class became extravagantly wealthy, the foundations have crumbled, eaten away by corruption and excess, and the old values of Spartan discipline and social unity have given way to a great chasm between the classes.
A richly layered look at history and the building of an empire, ‘Rome’ sets the stage for modern politics — infighting, corruption, party lines and the struggle to define collective values. “Human nature never changes,” says co-creator Bruno Heller. “We see the same problems today — crime, unemployment, disease, and the struggle for social mobility and the pressure to preserve your place in a precarious society.”
An intimate drama of love and betrayal, masters and slaves, and husbands and wives, ‘Rome’ chronicles the epic times that saw the fall of a Republic and the creation of an empire.

Hello and long live this blog !
Canceling of HBO’s Rome miniseries is very normal that it was showing real faces of ”Civilization” of Rome generaly even it’s makers was trying to hide them and show fake faces of “culture” of Rome from looking angle of USA as a disinformation as always…

I just purchased the first and second seasons on disk. I wish they would continue it. Sure it was very salacious and suggestive; yet the crucifixion scenes with clothed victims were totally inaccurate. They should have been consistent throughout.
I feel that HBO’s owners were afraid that the author’s and producer’s were about to become too authentic and realistic and that the so-called Christian Evangelicals would vent their wrath upon HBO.
